AN ARCHAEOLOGIST will deliver a talk in Llandudno next month, entitled “Discovering the Hillforts of Iron Age Wales”.

Dr Toby Driver, senior archaeologist at the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, will give the talk on Thursday, October 12.

It has been arranged by social enterprise Ships' Timbers, and will be held at Assembly Hall at Llandudno Town Hall, on Lloyd Street.

Doors open at 7pm, before the talk from 7.30-8.30pm, which will be followed by a Q&A session until 9pm.

Debbie Wareham, chair of Ships' Timbers, said: “Ships’ Timbers was delighted to receive some funding from Welsh Government’s Social Isolation and Loneliness programme in order for people to take part in activities, and attend events related to local archaeology, heritage, and the natural environment.

“One of the themes we are currently exploring is the Iron Age in Conwy.

“This is a free event, and no booking is necessary. The talk will be an informal event for people to discover more about the Iron Age hillforts of Wales.

“In Conwy, there are several Iron Age hillforts to visit, including Pen y Dinas on the Great Orme, Caer Seion on Conwy Mountain, and Bryn Euryn at Rhos-on-Sea.

“Ships’ Timbers arranged a group visit to Pen y Dinas Hillfort, Great Orme in the summer, and will be offering further visits there, and to other hillfort locations in Conwy.

“In addition to Dr Driver’s talk in October, and the site visits, we will be offering some introductory art workshops, under the theme of ‘using archaeology to inspire art’ – in this case, the Iron Age.

“We hope the October talk will inspire people to join in with future activities, whether that is for a short walk, a hillfort visit, or a creative art workshop.”

All events of Ships’ Timbers will be posted on its Facebook page.
