STUDENTS at Ysgol Eirias are celebrating once again after achieving impressive GCSE results.

All subject areas of the school sustained high performance in their A*- C pass rate, despite the backdrop of post-Covid recovery and alterations to specifications. 

Several subjects gained more than 40 per cent A*/A, including History, French, Music, RS, PE, Graphics, Health and Social Care and Welsh. 

Finance, German and Art students achieved greater than 60 per cent A*/A. 

Those studying subjects such as Technology, Humanities, Business Studies, Science and Maths flourished- nearly a quarter of all Year 11 students gained A or A* in Maths and Science.

Students in practical subjects have excelled this year, where Music and PE continue to thrive with outstanding results, and Art, Textiles, Food Tech and Engineering students all collected excellent results.

Students who gained 5 or more A*s include Owain Allpress, Freya Bakewell, Kai Burke, Harry Buttle, Rhys Buttle,  Oliver Gregson, Jack Harvey, Tommy Hodgkinson, Ruby Lander, Mattie Parker, Olivia Roberts, Rowan Scharer, Gabbi Subkovaite and Amelie Surridge.

Stand out performers were:

  • Elen Edwards (12 A* & Distinction)
  • Josie Moran (11 A*, 1A & Distinction)
  • Layla Strydom (10 A*, 2A & Distinction)
  • Ella Steer (9A*, 4A)
  • Emily Bater (8*, 4A & Distinction)
  • Megan Roberts (8A*, 4A & Distinction)
  • Sarah Jones (7A*, 5A & Distinction)
  • Poppy Stewart (6A*, 5A, 1B)

It has also been a year for twins, with several sets of twins in Year 11 including; Elen and Rhian Edwards (scooping 16 A*s between them), Harry and Rhys Buttle (who scooped 9 A*s between them) and Eva and Lydia Botros.

Outgoing headteacher Sarah Sutton commented: “It is with great pride that I leave the school with such positive results. 

“The journey for these young people has not been easy in secondary school. 

“It is a privilege to have worked with students and staff of such high standards and levels of commitment.
