CONWY County Borough Council is investigating how a man wearing its uniform was allegedly filmed at the scene of a “hit-and-run” incident at a protest in Llanelli.
On Tuesday (August 8), a man was taken to hospital after being hit by a white van as it was leaving Stradey Park Hotel and Spa during asylum seeker protests that morning.
It has been alleged by witnesses, and in photographs and video circulated on social media, that the driver of the van was wearing Conwy County Borough Council uniform, and left the scene without giving his details.
Conwy County Borough Council has today (August 11) denied that the individual was working for the local authority, and is investigating the matter.
A source, who provided the Pioneer with a photo and video footage, claimed that a Conwy County Borough Council worker – or someone wearing its uniform - was behind the wheel of a white van at the incident outside the hotel.
They said: “What are council workers doing at a migrant camp during cutbacks? And who is the driver that drove off without giving his details?
“The injured person needed an ambulance and was taken to hospital.”
In response, a Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: “The person photographed was not working for Conwy County Borough Council.
“As a result, we are investigating how a Conwy-branded t-shirt came to be worn by an (unknown) individual in Llanelli.”

Dyfed-Powys Police was called to the incident but was unable to comment on the identity of the driver of the van.
The force continues the investigate the matter, which it said was captured on closed circuit television (CCTV).
A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were called to a report of an incident which occurred at about 10.55am on August 8 at the entrance to the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
“A white van and a pedestrian were involved in a collision. The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance.
“The incident was captured on CCTV, and enquiries are ongoing.”
Injuries sustained by the casualty were believed to be minor, and it is understood he was released from hospital on the same day.
Protests have been held at Stradey Park Hotel and Spa since plans for the venue to house up to 241 asylum seekers surfaced in June.
