The future of a popular Llandudno bar will be debated today at a Conwy licensing sub-committee meeting.
Fountains Bar and Cafe, on Upper Mostyn Street, closed in January following a New Year’s Eve party.
Local businessman Philip Ashe, who has run several other pubs and bars in the area, has submitted a licensing application to reopen Fountains, selling alcohol and playing music.
But a licensing sub-committee meeting will take place today following objections from residents.
Several residents had concerns about noise and anti-social behaviour, but the bar has since revised its planned opening hours.
Mr Ashe claims he has since reassured residents about the bar’s noise policy and said he’d even given residents his personal phone number.
Fountains opened for the first time last weekend but only on a temporary events notice.
The full licence will be debated today.

“We were open this weekend. It was packed. There weren’t any issues,” said Mr Ashe.
“I’ve spoken to the residents about their concerns about anti-social behavior in town. It won’t increase. People are already out on Mostyn Street; however, there’s nowhere else for them to go after Fountains closes, so they’ll have to go home, and I’ve supplied my noise policy and given the concerned residents my mobile number. They all seem more than happy.”
He added: “We’ve refurbished the main bar area. But we are going to do the rest as we go along because it’s such an old building. We plan on keeping the name ‘Fountains’ as it is because everybody knows it. Fountains has been there 25 years. I think it is one of the oldest bars in town.”
In a letter to Conwy County Council’s licensing department, Mostyn Street resident Stuart Cook complained about potential noise.
“My property is directly opposite,” he said.
“I’m already excessively affected by noise from surrounding premises. Allowing this property directly opposite to open until the early hours will directly increase noise intrusion into my property. My front sleeping accommodation will be severely affected.
“Live and recorded music at this premises previously produced unacceptable levels as the door was constantly opened and closed allowing the sound to escape with excessive conversation levels into the early hours.”
If the bar gets the full premises licence, it will open Mondays and Tuesdays till midnight; Wednesdays and Thursdays till 1.30 am; Fridays and Saturdays till 2.30 pm; Sundays till midnight, and until 1.30 pm on bank holidays.
