A WOMAN from Zambia has opened a beauty and sports massage salon in Colwyn Bay after years working in other salons.
Trish Zulu opened Ulemu Beauty at 7 Grenfield Road, having been self-employed for more than seven years.
The name of the business, Ulemu, means ‘dignity’ and ‘respect’ in Trish’s home language of Nyanja, which is a common lingua franca in Malawi and Zambia.
“I called my business this because I want the clients in my salon to feel comfortable, respected and dignified always - regardless of their race, size or gender,” Trish told the Journal.

The business caters for a range of needs and treatment, with available space on the premises for hair and beauty practitioners to rent from Ulemu.
Trish added: “It feels amazing to have my own space with the flexibility to cater to my clients and also provide rental opportunities for others.
“I’ve had some great support in opening the shop and really appreciate everyone who’s been involved in making it happen.”
Ulemu said its massage services are unavailable until the beginning of September.
