Woman left stranded on Eryri cliff after falcon attacks pet parrot

The woman had been part of a group of parrot owners from Derbyshire who had travelled to Glyder Fawr to fly their birds.

But when a peregrine falcon descended upon the group, one of the woman’s pet parrots fled higher up the mountain.

Left with just her second parrot, she climbed up to a dangerous position to rescue her bird, which was on a tracker.

But having made her way to the top, the parrot had a change of heart and flew back down to the group, leaving her stranded on the perilous upper cliffs, before a mountain rescue team helped them down.

An Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation spokesperson said: “To a barrage of parrot jokes from Maritime and Coastguard Agency and teams in North Wales Mountain Rescue Association, a hill party climbed up to the base of the cliffs and belayed a team member up to her location to make her safe.

“On arrival at the casualty, Jeckyll, the second parrot, perched on her owners' rucksack, greeted our team member with a "Hello"!

"Once safely on belay, both parrot and owner were lowered to safe ground before being guided down off the mountain.”
