The officer approached the body, which was on its back and described as looking as if it had collapsed.
Officers attended the scene, but there were no signs of life or response to cardiopulmonary resuscitation from Mr Humphreys.
A post-mortem examination, carried out by Dr Mark Atkinson, provided a provisional cause of death of presumed drowning.
John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
