A PRODUCTION of the popular musical “Calendar Girls” is to be performed in Colwyn Bay next month.
The musical, featuring adult members of Powerplay Musical Theatre Company, will be shown at Theatr Colwyn from July 13-15.
Written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow, Calendar Girls tells the story of Annie, whose husband dies from leukaemia, before she teams up with her close friend, Chris, to buy a comfortable sofa for the visitors’ room at the hospital where he was treated.

They have an idea of printing a calendar to raise the funds, featuring some of the members of the Knapely branch of the Women’s Institute.
It proves to be a calendar with a difference, as each of the traditional activities would be depicted by one of the ladies discretely posing in the nude.
Proceeds from Powerplay’s production will go towards keeping the company running, as well as to Macmillan Cancer Support, and to funding a new cold cap machine at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
If any money is left over, it will be put towards a new ultrasound device for cannulation assistance for the centre.
Tickets can be bought at: www.theatrcolwyn.co.uk/shows/calendar-girls.
The production is recommended for ages 14 and older (under-14s must be accompanied by an adult, no under-10s will be permitted).
Powerplay is also looking for sponsors for the show, who can contact powerplayofficial@gmail.com if interested.
Members of the group will also be producing their own charity calendar for 2024.
Amy Fenwick, Powerplay creative director, said: “Myself and many of our cast have family or friends who are currently fighting, have fought and won, or who have sadly been taken too soon by cancer.
“So, this show means the world to all of us. They are the reason we are doing it, and who we are raising awareness and money for.
“I was approached by an amazing group of local ladies recently who are, too, in the process of producing their very own ‘Calendar Girls’ calendar, all who are currently battling or have recently beat breast cancer.
“These inspiring ladies are coming to see our show together!”
