A GIRL has cut off hair that has taken years to grow to raise money for a children’s hospice that cares for her best friend.

Eldra Humphreys, of Llanrwst, underwent the chop to raise money for Tŷ Gobaith hospice in the Conwy Valley where her friend Bedwyr Davies attends for respite stays.

Bedwyr has the extremely rare genetic condition Coffin-Siris syndrome which causes significant learning disability and has just 200 children diagnosed worldwide.

Eldra, aged eight, had wanted to cut her hair for a while and after some persuasion off mum, Bethan, she received her new bob on May 31 at the Y Siswrn salon in the town.

She was sponsored by friends, family and members of the community.

Bethan said: “Eldra wanted to cut her hair at the end of last year but I wasn’t sure as it was so long and beautiful.

“I eventually said okay, but suggested that we do if for charity.

“She loved that idea and chose Tŷ Gobaith to help support Bedwyr.”

Eldra will also be donating the hair to The Little Princess Trust who make real hair wigs for children going through chemotherapy.

She raised more than £600 which will be split between the hospice and Alder Hey children’s hospital where she herself underwent corrective surgery at just two years old on a hypoplastic thumb which was amputated and an index finger turned into a thumb.

Having met at baby club and attended the same school, Eldra and Bedwyr are great friends and even live very close by each other.

Bedwyr’s mum, Nerys said: “We are all very proud of Eldra.

“She is such a kind and caring person – always thinking of others.

“She faces her own challenges too, but knows that Tŷ Gobaith help Bedwyr navigate life and wanted to support him.

“At Christmas she even asked Santa Claus for £20 to give to charity - that was the first thing on her list.”
