CONCERNS over the club’s home venue have been put to the side by in-form North Wales Crusaders.
Carl Forster’s impressive charges made it four wins on the bounce courtesy of a 62-24 triumph at home to Midlands Crusaders.
‘Home’ in this case was Nant Conwy Rugby Club, in Llanrwst, with Crusaders’ regular pitch at Stadiwm CSM in Colwyn Bay still unavailable.
Despite the change in setting, the North Wales side came firing out of the blocks and they were 34-6 ahead by half-time.
A sixth minute try by Jake Thewlis, converted by Brad Billsborough, provided the Crusaders with the ideal start.
Continuing on the front foot, the hosts stretched their lead via Chris Barratt’s 17th minute try and Ryan Ellis got on the end of Billsborough’s grubber kick for try number three five minutes later.
Just a further five minutes elapsed before Jack Houghton finished off a fine passing move and the lead was extended to 30 points courtesy of Jordan Andrade’s converted score.
Midlands did open their account for the afternoon with Nathan Hill’s converted score, but the final word of the half belonged to the Crusaders as Andrade crossed from close range for his second try of the afternoon.
That made it 34-6 at the interval and victory already appeared to be in the bag for the home side.
After Midlands Hurricanes enjoyed a bright start to the second half, it was the Crusaders who grabbed the next score.
Matt Reid went over in the corner for an unconverted score three minutes after the restart.
Midlands were looking to reduce their deficit and they did so with a quickfire treble.
Ryan Johnson crossed in the corner for his side’s second score in the 45th minute and this was quickly followed by Ben Stead’s effort four minutes later.
Stead converted his own try and Crusaders’ lead was back down to 20 points.
Midlands’ purple patch continues when Bailey Dawson crossed the whitewash and Stead added the two-pointer.
Crusaders will have been determined to get the next score and they achieved this aim with Jake Burns’ try.
Burns’ next converted score on the hour took the hosts through the 50-point mark and Crusaders finished on a high with a pair of Rob Massam tries in the final couple of minutes.
