THE leader of Conwy County Borough Council has become the new mayor of Abergele.
At Abergele Town Council's annual meeting, outgoing mayor cllr Alan Hunter handed over the chain of office to his fellow councillor and new mayor of Abergele, cllr Charlie McCoubrey, and his consort Mayoress Gaynor McCoubrey.
The mayor gave thanks to cllr Hunter and outgoing mayoress Cheryl Hunter, for all their hard work. Cllr Hunter served for two and a half years.

A spokesperson from Abergele Town Council said: "Cllr McCoubrey thanked his fellow councillors, staff at the town hall and his wife, Gaynor and family who were present."
Cllr McCoubrey, who is originally from Bangor, Northern Ireland.
He first visited Abergele in 1995 whilst playing Rugby for the opposition team. He recalled how he had received such a warm welcome and felt a sense of community which subsequently led him to move to Abergele with his family.
Cllr McCoubrey said: "I am very much looking forward to serving the residents of Abergele and surrounding areas.
"It is an honour and a privilege to be the town mayor."
Cllr McCoubrey chosen charity for the year is CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young, who aim is to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in the young through awareness, screening, research, and supporting affected families. He chose this charity following the bereavement of his nephew two years ago due to an undiagnosed heart condition.
Cllr McCoubrey added: "The charity went on to scan the brother of my nephew, who also had a heart condition detected and now lives a healthy life with medication to treat his condition which was only picked up through being screened.
"I would like all young people in Abergele to be screened."
Cllr McCoubrey hopes to raise funds to do this and work with sporting communities and schools.
