A CONCERT in Llandudno, entitled “Composers of Ukraine”, raised £1,000 to support the war-torn country.
Held at the Trinity Community Centre on Saturday, April 29, it featured renditions of music by Ukrainian composers, as well as short profiles of their lives.
Professional pianist Jelena Stepanova was among those who performed at the concert.
Guests also had a chance to buy Ukrainian souvenirs and hand-made items, while there were also hot drinks and cakes on sale, and a raffle.

In particular, one cake with a Ukrainian theme was also auctioned after the concert had finished.
Helen Denning, of Llandudno but originally from Ukraine, helped organise the event.
She said: “The musicians Elina, Iryna Yavorska, Maria, Dennys and Mariia, led by our professional violinist Olga Piddubna Moss, excelled themselves in their performances.
“We had violin, piano, bandura (a traditional Ukrainian instrument) and harp performances.
“The presenters Olesia and Vova told the audience interesting facts about the composers and important aspects of Ukrainian history connected to the selected composers.
“The audience could also see on the screen the photographs of the composers and beautiful Ukrainian countryside presented by Nataliia Podcherniaieva.
“Thanks to our supporters we have raised £1,000.

“Due to the Victorian Extravaganza, the audience was smaller than we anticipated but most appreciative, with several people dressed in Victorian costumes.
“We are grateful to St Paul's Church in Craig-y-Don, and to the Trinity Centre, for allowing our participants to practise there.
“We appreciate Loretto Centre loaning us the equipment for presentations, and are thankful to Christina Norman from Cafe Haven, the management of Penmaenmawr Museum, and Cllr Carol Marubbi for their continued support.”
Previously, six such events had been organised across Denbighshire and Conwy.
The thousands of pounds raised have helped purchase items such as medical supplies, a night vision device to assist in clearing Ukrainian territories of mines, and a car for a combat zone.
