SAM ROWLANDS has called on people in North Wales to get together to help raise money for Dementia UK.
The Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales is urging his constituents to get together and enjoy a cuppa and a cake as part of the charity's annual 'Time for a Cuppa' tea party fundraising events which is held from May 1-8.
A keen supporter of Dementia UK, Mr Rowlands said: “As we approach Dementia Action Week I am now calling on my constituents to get together and take part in the Dementia UK’s ‘Time for a Cuppa’ campaign running through the month of May.
“The annual tea party fundraising event helps to raise money to help more families access the life changing support of specialist dementia nurses.
“As a Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales I continue to back moves to make the Senedd more dementia friendly and I am always happy to support and help to highlight this disease.”
Dementia Action Week is an awareness raising campaign. Each year, the charity works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’.
In 2022, Dementia Action Week encouraged people who are concerned that they or someone they know may be experiencing dementia symptoms to seek further help. Dementia UK provided information on memory loss, advice on talking to the GP, and ways to cope with memory loss.
Throughout the week, they saw a 43% average increase in calls to their dementia support line from those seeking information and support.
To support the campaign, a free drop-in event has been organised for people living with dementia, their carers, professionals and anyone else interested in finding out more about Dementia and the services available in Conwy County.
During the session there will be a number of services and organisations offering advice and support including: Conwy Telecare; Conwy Community Wellbeing Team; North Wales Police; Conwy Libraries; Welfare Rights; Occupational Therapy; North Wales Dementia Centre; Llys Elian and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The Dementia Information Day will take place at Coed Pella, Colwyn Bay on Wednesday, May 17 from 10am-2.30pm.
