A WOMAN from Rhos-on-Sea was placed third in the Welsh category for hair stylist of the year at last weekend’s UK Hair and Beauty Awards 2023.

Aisha Griffiths, 22, who runs “Hair By Aisha Lily” from within the “Stacey's Hair & Beauty” salon on Llandudno Road, said it was a “massive achievement” for her.

She attended the awards ceremony in Birmingham on Saturday (April 22) with her partner, Lauren, on the back of being named in the top 50 last year.

As well as taking third place for Wales, she also made the top 10 in Conwy.

Aisha said: “It was a really good weekend. Last year, they had to do it online because of COVID, so it was nice to go to an in-person event. I had never been to an awards before.

“I wasn’t expecting to win anything, really. I just wanted to experience the night and the atmosphere, and it was amazing.

“It felt really good to come third out of the whole of Wales, and to get top 10 in the district section, which was the Conwy area. That was a massive achievement for me, at 22.

“I never thought I’d finish third out of the whole of Wales in a million years. Even the day after, it hadn’t sunk in how big an achievement it was.”

For finishing third, Aisha is due to receive a personalised certificate from the awards organisers.

To enter the awards, she had to submit examples of her best work, and add what she loves about the hairdressing industry, and what she feels she brings to it.

She has been running her own business for roughly five years, and had just turned 14 when she first started helping out at a salon in Trefriw.
