THE SECOND phase of the Llandudno Junction flyover work is set to begin in April, and details on the work have been revealed.

Work to refurbish the flyover also includes replacements to waterproofing, movement joints and drainage.

The work was originally planned to be completed in three phases, but was soon amended, with the first phase being completed last year.

Phase two of the project will complete the work, and will run from April 17 to July 20, as dry weather is required for the refurbishment.

There will be “businesses open as usual” signs to let customers know they can still get to the businesses, and coaches will still be able to get in to Conwy.

Traffic over the flyover and around the roundabout will be managed by temporary traffic lights - one lane of the flyover will be closed to traffic during the work.

The road will not be reopened for half term and May bank holiday weekends, as the bridge will not be safe enough to open to traffic.

Arriva and other bus operators will amend their routes to allow for the diversion, but train services will not be affected.

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: “We understand that this work will cause major disruption and inconvenience, because the bridge is a main route into Conwy.

“It’s because this is a key route that the work is so important, to keep the bridge safe and open for years to come.

“We are aiming to get the work done as quickly as possible, which will include weekend and evening work.”

“We will maintain access from the Weekly News roundabout to Conwy, Deganwy and Llandudno Junction. There will be access from the Weekly News roundabout to the Tesco roundabout. Vehicles travelling from the Tesco’s roundabout towards Llandudno Junction and Llandudno will follow a diversion via Black Cat roundabout.

“Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists through the site from Conwy to the steps at the Llandudno Junction end of the site, near Lidl.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Facilities – Infrastructure, said: “This is important work needed to keep this key route into Conwy open into the future and we thank residents for their patience while we finish this refurbishment.

“The work is scheduled for spring and summer as it requires drier weather. We’re keeping a lane open across the bridge to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.

“Beginning the work after Easter and completing in July avoids the main school holidays.”
