AN OBJECTION to plans for a light industrial park in Conwy was dismissed despite concerns being raised about noise, traffic, and the loss of green space.
Conwy’s estates and asset management team applied to the council’s planning department, seeking a two-year deadline extension for a light industrial park at land at Parc Menter, Tre Morfa Enterprise Park, Parc Caer Seion.
The council already has consent for the units, which were granted outline planning permission in April 2018.

But some details, including the units’ layout, scale, appearance, and landscaping, were reserved matters, meaning a more detailed planning application would be determined at a future planning meeting.
But the deadline to apply was due to expire next month (24 April 2023), and the council requested a two-year extension to submit these applications, which was granted.
Resident James Thorp, though, wrote to the council, outlining his concerns about the plans, complaining the industrial units would impact the lives of residents living on Winacres and Mona Road.
“My first objection would be in regards to the principle,” he wrote.
“The use of the land is an integral part of the local community for children to play on and people to walk their dogs.
“I use this area daily for this exact purpose and feel that if it were to become yet another industrial area it would prevent the local community from having access to green space and park facilities without having to go further afield.
“My second objection would be for the purpose of the disturbance. Access to this area is only available along a narrow residential road (Winacres) and any increase in traffic would have a negative impact on local residents.
“Even if access to the site was only from the current industrial area, the additional noise and disturbance would affect the residents on Winacres and Mona Road.”

But referring to the letter at a meeting at Bodlondeb, planning officer Dave Watson dismissed the concerns. “I don’t think the local resident who made those comments has really looked at the drawings and is aware of the background to the application,” he said.
Cllr Austin Roberts proposed the committee supported the planning application, which was seconded by Cllr Stephen Price, and the committee voted unanimously in favour.
