A CAFÉ which is among the oldest in Colwyn Bay is welcoming customers once again after being taken on by new owners.
“Blod’s Coffee Corner”, on Abergele Road, re-opened on Wednesday, March 8, having been closed since last April.
It has re-opened under the ownership of Tyler Booker, a 26-year-old chef, and her partner, James Jones, 36, who also owns Lawn and Order gardening and landscaping services in Colwyn Bay.
Both have lived in Colwyn Bay for most of their lives, and Tyler said: “We've both grown up here and have always seen what a lovely café it is.
“I’ve dreamed of having my own cafe since I was about 12.”
The café will be open from 8am-4pm from Monday to Saturday, and 9am-4pm on Sundays.
It had closed due to the deteriorating health of former owner, Deniz.
Previously, Deniz told the Pioneer: “I think it’s the second-oldest cafe in area, but I was told that by customers, telling me they used to come here in the 1960s.”
Tyler is also hosting a “family fun day” in aid of the mental health charity, Mind, and Streetz, a Warrington-based organisation which supports disadvantaged young adults.
This will take place on Saturday, March 18, from 10.30am until 11.45pm, at the Legion social club on Coed Pella Road, Colwyn Bay.
It will feature live music, a raffle, soft play, arts and crafts, a talent show, and stalls from a number of Colwyn Bay-based businesses.
Tyler added: “I wanted to do a event like this to bring our community back together, and show that, when we all come together, we can make a difference.
“I found myself needing Mind’s help a lot over the last few years, and they were amazing. They have helped me so much, and I wanted to give something back.
“Also, with the cost of living, and not much for kids to do around here, I've made my event free, with lots of activities just asking for donations, no matter if it's 10p; everything helps.
“All local businesses on the day are giving me a percentage and The Legion have offered 20p off every pint. It’s amazing.”
