A FUNDRAISER for a victim of a 'hit and run' in Llanrhos who remains in critical condition has reached more than £9,000 overnight.
Mark Davies a long serving member of North Wales Road Running Club and an internationally acclaimed ultra-distance mountain runner, suffered life-threatening injuries during an incident at 11.30pm on Saturday, January 28; a crash occurred between a black VW Polo and a pedestrian on Crogfryn Lane near Llandudno.
The VW Polo left the scene prior to the arrival of officers. A short time later a black Polo was involved in a single-vehicle collision outside Llandudno Magistrates Court on Conway Road whereby the driver left the scene.
Mark, 48, was initially taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd but has since been transferred to hospital in Stoke where he remains in a critical condition.
Master veteran runner Don Hale said: "Mark Davies, a long serving member of North Wales Road Running Club, was the unfortunate victim of a hit and run accident close to his home in Llanrhos on Saturday, January 28 and is currently fighting for his life at Stoke Mandeville Hospital after suffering life threatening injuries.
"The talented endurance athlete is an internationally acclaimed award winner who just a few weeks ago won a prestigious Special Achievement prize at the Sports Conwy Awards ceremony for his exceptional performances both overseas and in the UK for his ultra-mountain running exploits.
"Mark, however, is self-employed, and obviously at present, he is unable to work, so his friends, supporters, and clubmates at North Wales Road Running Club, have just set-up a special GoFundMe page to help raise some money for his family."
Mark, 48, who is married to Leanne, won a special achievement award for tackling the daunting Swiss Peaks 360 mountain race last year.
Don added: "Both [Leanne and Mark] are well-known around Llandudno and the surrounding areas and the fundraising team of organisers say they would be most grateful if anyone who knows them feels able to contribute something to help take some of the financial pressure off them."
The fundraiser was set up on Monday (January 30) by Darrel Lewis.
Following the hit and run, a 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop following a collision and drink driving.
