A LLANDUDNO golf club are ‘very disappointed’ that their on-site catering service has received a food hygiene rating of one, citing paperwork as the reason for the score.
P C Catering, which operate at Maesdu Golf Club on Hospital Road, were handed a food hygiene rating of one after assessment on November 27, the Food Standards Agency shows.
The report into the caterer found its hygienic food handling ‘generally satisfactory’, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building ‘good’, but rated its management of food safety ‘major improvement necessary’.
A spokesperson for the club attributed the poor rating to paperwork, saying they were “advised they would be scored down due to deficiencies in the management of their paper work”.
The club said they were ‘extremely happy’ with the service being provided, and that the catering company were working with Conwy County Borough Council to correct the problem, with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) paperwork deemed unacceptable at the time of inspection.
A Maesdu Golf Club spokesperson said: “P C Catering are a franchise company who have been with Maesdu for the last 12 months.

“Prior to this they had a catering franchise at a local sports club where they were very successful. We are extremely happy with the food and service they provide for our members and the hygiene of the kitchen is very good.
“We are very disappointed that P C Catering were only awarded one star.
“We are fully aware of the importance for all food establishments to obtain the highest possible rating to ensure food is served safely and we have always obtained a five star hygiene rating in the past.
P C Catering had their first inspection from the local authority in November and were told that their kitchen cleanliness and food handling was good/satisfactory, however, they were advised they would be scored down due to deficiencies in the management of their paper work.
“I must stress that a HACCP file has always been in place, unfortunately, as the file they were using was listed as Maesdu Golf Club and was not the same file used by them prior to them taking over our franchise, this was considered unacceptable.
“Since the visit P C Catering have been very busy building their own HACCP management file with the assistance of Conwy Council and with our full support.
“The facilities will be re-checked by Conwy Council to revaluate the hygiene ratings at their earliest opportunity.”
