THE HSBC branch in Colwyn Bay is one of 114 branches set to be closed by the banking giant next year, in a move branded ‘simply unacceptable’.
The bank said they had come to the decision to close branches from April next year as customers using them have fallen significantly since the pandemic.
They added that they would try to redeploy affected staff but that around 100 people will lose their jobs.
HSBC said it would invest in updating its remaining 327 branches, but Clwyd West MP David Jones said the bank is ‘abandoning’ its customers in North Wales.
The Colwyn Bay branch, located on Conway Road, will close in August 2023.

“This is more bad news for banking customers in Colwyn Bay,” said Mr Jones.
“We have recently also lost the local branches of Lloyds, Barclays and the Halifax.
“It is true that increasing numbers of people are using internet banking, but there are times when customers need advice from human officials. This is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
“The banks need to put arrangements in place to provide that advice - abandoning customers is simply unacceptable.
“I have written to HSBC seeking an urgent meeting with a senior official to discuss this matter and will be asking how they propose to provide the standard of service my constituents are entitled to.”
