AN AMBITIOUS degree student who won a silver medal at the Welsh International Culinary Championships has been named the new higher education student union president and student governor for Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.
Will Fletcher, 22 from Colwyn Bay, came out victorious after winning a hard-fought battle against several worthy contenders.
He is currently studying on the foundation degree in hospitality management at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus.
Will will now represent degree and higher education students at Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.
Will is keen to listen to the ideas of students and student representatives from the Grŵp’s 12 campuses across Conwy, Anglesey, Denbighshire and Gwynedd, and is aiming to represent his peers effectively, especially at the college group’s board meetings for governors.
Will has been on an impressive journey since getting his first taste of cooking at school aged 14, which he loved.
After school, he enrolled on the Level One in hospitality course at the college.
He has since completed Levels Two, Three, and Four, and is now halfway through completing his Level Five degree qualification.
Will is now planning to do a one-year top-up to a full BA (hons) degree at Coleg Llandrillo in 2023 before embarking on a Master’s degree.
Career-wise, Will wants to progress as far as possible within the hospitality industry.

Will said: “I am really looking forward to the various challenges that will come with the role.
“I want to ensure that all degree and higher education students get an equal voice and have the chance to put forward their views.
“College has been extremely enjoyable. I have gained a whole new set of skills, which I plan to put to good use in the future.”
Will prefers the front-of-house roles to being in the kitchen.
He has had numerous successes in national competitions, including winning a medal at the Welsh International Culinary Championships.
And he also made the grand final of the renowned ‘Heat’ competition in Jersey, only to find out that it had been cancelled at short notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
