A NEW festival celebrating and championing short film from Wales and further afield will take place in Colwyn Bay at the end of the month.
The Gogs International Short Film Festival will be held on Saturday, November 26, at Colwyn Bay’s Theatr Colwyn, the oldest working cinema in the UK.
The seven winning titles will all been screened on the night, having been selected from films submitted from Wales, the UK and internationally, by a judging panel made up professionals from all corners of the filmmaking industry.

The judges include Oscar nominee Ash Brannon (co-director of “Toy Story 2”), actor and director Ian Puleston-Davies (“Coronation Street” and Sky Atlantic’s “Tin Star”) and Sundance award-winning screenwriter and director Sara Sugarman (Sky Movies’ “Save The Cinema”).
The festival will be hosted by BAFTA winning actor, screenwriter and director Celyn Jones.
Celyn is a Patron of Theatr Colwyn and Creative Director of festival partner, Mad As Birds Films.
He’ll present the trophies to winners of the seven categories in competition, which include Best Welsh Language Short, Best Welsh Made Short and Best UK Made Short.
The festival is presented in partnership by Theatr Colwyn/Conwy County Borough Council and Mad As Birds Films, funded by Bay of Colwyn Town Council and Ffilm Cymru and sponsored and supported by Stage Ffity and Conwy Arts Trust.
Theatr Colwyn was built in the 1880s and first started showing films in January 1909.
This will be the venue’s first in-house film festival.
