A STUDENT from Colwyn Bay starred for Wales as they finished third in a prestigious hockey tournament.
Alex Starling, a Year 13 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, turned out for the Wales Under-17 squad at the 2022 School Games at Loughborough University.
Starling is the school’s First XI captain, and after earning a deserved call-up, took part in three training camps in Cardiff with his new teammates and coaches before the youth tournament.
It proved to be another worthwhile outing for the Welsh contingent, who acquitted themselves well in the face of quality opposition to finish third overall.
Alex’s finished as the team’s top scorer, with a brace against Ulster a particular highlight, and ended the tournament as joint-third top scorer overall.
Starling was the driving force in the school’s Under-18 squad finishing second at the Welsh Schools’ Championships and has made appearances for the Eirias Hockey Club senior men’s team.
Alex also attends Hockey Wales Regional Performance Centre training.
