THE LLANDUDNO site of a builders’ merchant looks to be safe after some branches, including one in North Wales, were placed under threat of closure.
Jewson, is one of the largest building merchants in the UK and has a site at Council Street West in Llandudno, one of 20 branches in Wales.
Last week, there were reports that its parent company - French-based Compagnie de Saint-Gobain - were looking to sell Jewson, which it acquired more than 20 years ago in an acquisition of the Meyer Group.
It has placed several sites in Wales under threat of closure, including the site in Wrexham.
However, it seems the site in Llandudno has escaped closure, with Jewson’s regional director for Wales and West, Leigh Hill, saying: “No firm decisions have been made about closing branches.
“We are currently consulting with colleagues at Jewson Carmarthen branch, as well as branches at Barry, Crymych, Llandysul and Wrexham in the north about the potential closure of the branches.
“We have some fantastic and loyal colleagues across these branches - so we are working closely with these colleagues at the moment to consult on alternative possible solutions.”
