A6 6am this morning, more than 260 ultra-runners from 26 different nations set out from Conwy Castle at the start of the 2022 Montane Dragon’s Back Race, the world’s toughest multi-stage mountain race.
Among the runners are defending champion and Welshman Simon Roberts, and winner of the 2019 women’s race Lisa Watson, both aiming to be the first people to win the race for the second time.
Runners from across the world are taking part, with the countries represented including Zimbabwe, South Korea, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Argentina and Canada.
Over the next six days, the runners will attempt to cover 380km of distance and 17,400m of ascent, including a long traverse of the Brecon Beacons for the first time, finishing at Cardiff Castle on Saturday, 10 September.
