THE MP for Aberconwy, Robin Millar, joined the breakfast team at Llandudno’s Empire Hotel last week to take part in UK Hospitality Cymru’s “skills challenge”.

The challenge saw him don the hotel’s trademark uniform and serve breakfast to guests to help promote jobs and careers in this crucial sector.

After serving breakfast to Nick and Julie Burnod of the Wirral - who have been regulars at the Empire for 30 years - he moved on to meet industry leaders, and then joined in with a management team meeting at the nearby Imperial Hotel, led by general manager, Geoff Lofthouse.

Mr Millar said: “I had a great time meeting the teams at Llandudno’s Empire Hotel and Imperial Hotel.

“The Empire Hotel is a family business and it was a real pleasure to meet three generations of a family working there on the day.

“I'm grateful to everyone who made me feel so welcome during my day participating in UK Hospitality Cymru’s ‘skills challenge’.

“Tourism and hospitality make an invaluable contribution to our local economy and I'll continue to support businesses, large and small, throughout Aberconwy as part of our plan.

“I successfully campaigned for hospitality businesses in Wales to be entitled to the same business rate discounts in England and I am delighted our Levelling Up Fund bids broaden, strengthen and update what we offer to visitors.

“We must make North Wales more accessible.

“It is still the case that only two per cent of international visitors to the UK visit Wales the electrification of the North Wales Coast Line – something I am determined to deliver – will bring huge benefits to our local businesses.”

UK Hospitality Cymru executive director, David Chapman, said: “Robin is a great supporter of our sector and we are indebted to him for giving up so much time to promote the wide range of fantastic jobs in our sector.

“We are also delighted that he took so much time to discuss with us in detail the current issues facing the industry in the region.”
