MEMBERS of North Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC) celebrated a night out at Blackpool last Saturday (August 13) and competed in the “Run the Lights” 10k and 5k races.
This also marked the start of the Illuminations at this popular Lancashire seaside resort.
Kelly Alford and her partner Cai Roberts were both in dazzling form and ran together throughout the 10k event.
Kelly also celebrated a new course PB by about a minute in 50.42 and finished fourth in her F35 age cat in 111th position as the 22nd female runner, with Cai sharing the same time, and just one place behind.
Mandy Owen ran very well after recovering from a period of ill health and finished in 216th place.
She was the 56th female runner in 57.21, and her husband Charlie Owen, who is recovering from an Achilles injury, opted for the 5k race, and he enjoyed a strong finish in 143rd place in 35.27.
Jon Evans races across the pond
Meanwhile, Road Runner Jon Evans travelled across the pond to race in the Roosevelt Island DC parkrun in America at the weekend.
He claimed second spot in his MV55 age cat in a good time of 23.22, finishing in ninth place overall.
This was Jon’s fastest parkrun of the year, and afterwards, he said: “It was a great experience, albeit a hot and turgid run.”
Hot run at Tatton Park for Rob Fryer
Rob Fryer enjoyed a hot run in the sun last Saturday morning during the Tatton Park 10k race, where he finished 72nd amid a large entry of 303 runners.
He also claimed second place in his M65 age cat.
Summer relay for NWRRC members
North Wales Road Runners enjoyed superb weather for their annual summer relay race held on Llandudno prom last Tuesday night (August 9).
Organised in teams of three, the event was won by Steve Mason, and Cai Roberts, who also ran two out of their three legs.
The runners-up team included Harry Driscoll, Adam Lemalle and Rachel Morris.
Plaudits were later given to all the competitors, and helpers, with special thanks to Carla Green for arranging the teams, and to John Hatton for providing the race numbers, pins, and water.
Additional deserved praise was also given to Mike Hayton and Kevin Higgins for the buffet arrangements.
