FORMER England rugby union international Richard Greenwood was the guest speaker at the summer lunch for a business club at St David’s College, Llandudno.
Greenwood, father of England World Cup-winner Will Greenwood, made his debut for England against Ireland at Twickenham in 1966, winning five caps in three years, going on to serve as captain in his last game, also against Ireland.
Some 70 guests attended the lunch, where St David’s Hospice were the hosts in conjunction with St David’s College, with Mr Greenwood delivering an entertaining address about his career and links to the North Wales dual-code rugby scene.
Greenwood went on to play in Kenya and Italy after his international career, before serving as England coach between 1983 and 1985.
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to Rugby.
However, his ties to North Wales stem from his involvement in the region’s rugby league setup, serving as Chairman and coaching the Junior sides of Prestatyn and Rhyl Panthers since 2011, as well as a position on the Board of Directors of the Wales Rugby League.
