COLWYN Bay tennis player Viktor Frydrych took part in the Boys’ Singles at Wimbledon this year after securing a wildcard.
The 16 year-old from Colwyn Bay, who now lives in Chester, is the top ranked under-18 boy in Wales, and in the top 250 junior players in the world.
It was a first appearance at Wimbledon for Viktor, who now trains at the LTA National Academy at Stirling.
Unfortunately, Viktor went out to Sebastian Gorzny of the USA, losing 6-3, 6-4, but playing at the Championships is another hugely positive step in his development.
Mimi Xu from Swansea also received a wildcard and Tennis Wales Head of Performance Chris Lewis was delighted to see both players in the tournament.
He said: “This is fantastic news and deserved recognition for both players for all their hard work in training.
“It is great experience, allowing them to go head-to-head with some of the best junior players in the world.
“These are positive times for Welsh tennis with many more talented players coming through.”
