The rabbits are now recovering at RSPCA Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre in Upper Colwyn Bay.

North Wales Pioneer:

Animal rescue officer John Littlewood said: “Sadly we are seeing more and more animals being given up as people’s circumstances change.

“Help is out there, abandoning or dumping an animal is never the answer - please speak to friends and family, your vet or a charity first.

“If anyone recognises these rabbits they can get in touch with the RSPCA on our appeal line 0300 123 4999.”

The rabbits are thought to be around three-months-old, and weighed just 490g when they were picked up - in just a week that has almost doubled to 1kg.

The RSPCA has seen a 49% increase* in rabbits coming into its care during the first five months of this year - and the charity is building more accommodation at centres to help keep up with demand.

North Wales Pioneer:

RSPCA rabbit welfare expert Dr Jane Tyson added: “It’s more important than ever that we spread the message to people to do their research before taking on a pet.

“Rabbits can live for a long time and can be costly, they need much more than just a hutch at the end of the garden - they need space, companionship and enrichment to live happy and healthy lives.

“If you do feel able to commit to a pet or feel you could take a rabbit in for fostering please contact your local RSPCA centre to help.”
