Rabbits named after Stranger Things characters need homes

Staff at the Upper Colwyn Bay centre - who are fans of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things - have named a group of bunnies after the show.

Eleven, Steve and Robin, Suzie and Dustin, Lucas, Nancy, Murray, Billy, Jonathan and Hopper have all been named after characters appearing in the science fiction horror drama television series - and are all available for rehoming.

Eleven.

Deputy centre manager Rachel Gibbs said: “We just love Stranger Things and we have noticed there are some coincidental bunny puns in the show. For example there is a character called Hopper and Dustin is often referred to as DustyBun by his girlfriend Suzie."

She added: “We just couldn't resist naming some of our wonderful rabbits after the show’s characters. We have a lot of rabbits currently in our care and would love to see them all go to loving homes soon, so please get in touch if you think you would be the perfect match for them.

“Steve and Robin and Suzie and Dustin will need to be rehomed as pairs, but the others can be rehomed on their own but would benefit from being introduced to another rabbit.”

This week the RSPCA marks Rabbit Awareness Week (27 June -1 July).

Rachel added that this Rabbit Awareness Week it is more important than ever to spread the message to people to do their research before taking a rabbit on.

She said: “These animals can live for a long time and can be costly, they need much more than just a hutch at the end of the garden - they need space, companionship and enrichment to live happy and healthy lives.

“If you’re confident you can provide a suitable home then please adopt, don’t shop. Reputable rescue centres neuter, vaccinate and microchip rabbits before they are rehomed and also provide owners with a wealth of information and ongoing support.”

This year’s theme for Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) is ‘Room for Rabbits’.

It follows research that shows that 38% of vets believe rabbits’ environment is the most neglected welfare issue, with over a quarter of the UK’s rabbits being kept in inadequate housing conditions and almost half of them living alone.

The RSPCA believes typical rabbit hutches do not provide the amount of space needed to help meet the animals’ welfare requirements, and the charity encourages people to look at their guidelines on housing to ensure they can provide safe, stimulating and appropriately-sized accommodation.

The second volume of the retro fantasy smash-hit’s fourth series drops on Netflix on Friday.
