WREXHAM AFC and Wales legend Mickey Thomas has completed his climb up Snowdon as he looks to give back to those who helped him beat cancer.

The former Wales and Manchester United man was given the all clear from oesophagus cancer after life-saving treatment at the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham.

In the aftermath of his successful surgery, he was re-united with his surgeon and the healthcare team for a celebratory walk to Snowdon's summit on Saturday, June 18.

Mickey was also joined by close family, friends, fellow players and local supporters to celebrate the huge milestone.

The fundraiser has so far raised just shy of £11,000 (correct at time of writing).

Taking to Twitter to celebrate reaching the summit, Mickey said: "What a fantastic day great to see Neil Roberts the Wrexham legend and Susie join me on my walk up Snowdon."

The sponsored walk is Mickey's way of giving back to the NHS and the Awyr Las charity, which, he says, 'has saved my life'.

It is also to raise as much money as possible in aid of the Upper G.I. Surgical Unit at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which will benefit other patients like him, who are being treated and cared for by the wonderful staff at the hospital.
