A GROUP OF FRIENDS in Llandudno have raised more than £7,000 for St David’s Hospice after completing a number of challenges across 12 months.
The ladies were inspired to complete the challenge following the cancer diagnosis of friend Debbie Evans.
Ms Evans was diagnosed with cancer many times over 15 years, yet was told it was incurable when last diagnosed.
At the time, Ms Evans was resilient and intent on tackling the disease head-on.
“I have sat many a time on a chemotherapy ward receiving my treatment and have always chosen to have a friend or family member with me to make the process that much easier,” said Ms Evans.
“I could not have fought this battle without my friends and family by my side the whole way.

“This is why I, along with my family and friends, will be completing a different challenge each month for 2021, such as a step challenge, a zip-wire challenge and a sea dip, to name but a few.
Agreeing to complete the tasks they had set, the group embarked on their fundraising exploits.
Sadly, Debbie’s condition worsened, and she was later cared for by St David’s Hospice, before passing away on October 5 2021 surrounded by her husband Michael, her son Michael, and her daughter Becki.
Friend Sue Wood described Debbie as a lady with great vision and determination: “She gathered a group of friends to get together to raise money for the Alaw Ward and St David’s Hospice.
“Who could refuse this wonderful lady and fabulous friend?
This journey, throughout 2021, with Debbie was incredible, and she will live in our hearts forever.”
Her friends fulfilled her wish and completed the full 12 months of challenges, raising £7,100 for St David’s Hospice.
