JANET Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, has submitted a fourth objection letter to a contentious application to build 49 dwellings on Llandudno greenspace.

Anwyl Homes’ proposal is for 49 new homes, 17 of which would have been affordable, at the corner of Bodafon Road and Nant-y-Gamar Road, Craig-y-Don.

This land, which forms part of a registered historic landscape, is also based next to Ysgol Y Gogarth, a school for pupils with special educational needs aged between three and 19, and its respite accommodation, Llys Gogarth.

The letter has been submitted in light of the fact that, following the Planning Committee members of Conwy County Borough Council voting 6-5 to reject the application in March, Anwyl has provided further evidence in relation to the impact on standards of education service and environment currently enjoyed by the school.

The application will now be put before the committee again at a meeting on April 20, starting at 2pm.

Fears that Llandudno housing application could ‘permanently damage much-loved landscape’

Having considered the Boundary Treatment Plan, Response to the Equality Impact Assessment – Sections plans, and Noise Assessment Addendum, Mrs Finch-Saunders has concluded again that the application should be refused permission.

She said: “I do not think it acceptable that the Planning Committee allow any development to take place which necessitates action by Ysgol Y Gogarth to prepare students.

“This strikes me as clear evidence that the development is going to result in disturbance to the calm and peaceful environment required to educate the pupils.

“As Ysgol Y Gogarth has rightly stated, the chance that one child loses their place in their community because of the disruption caused by the construction phase and subsequent loss of space adjoining the school is too high a price morally and financially for Conwy.

“The local authority and the developer should be appalled that they are willing to even contemplate enabling children to walk and cycle to Ysgol Bodafon along a narrow rural lane which is not capable of being improved to meet modern standards.

“The Local Authority should act in the best interest of the youngest and most vulnerable in society and refuse planning permission.”

Mrs Finch-Saunders previously wrote to the council about the issue in July and November 2021 and in February.

Previously, calls to reject the application centred on the potential dangers to wildlife and land at Bodafon Fields, the impact it will have on congestion on the roads, and the effect it will have on Ysgol Y Gogarth.
