VOLUNTEERS at Llandudno’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) group helped to save a crew of two aboard a 29-foot yacht which lost propulsion while travelling from Rhyl to Bangor yesterday (April 13).
Llandudno’s all-weather lifeboat, William F Yates, was tasked to launch at 8.45pm on Wednesday to locate and assist the stranded vessel.
Due to the calm conditions, the two people on the yacht were finding it difficult to make any progress under sail, so made their call to Her Majesty’s Coastguard at Holyhead.

Shortly after launch, the Llandudno lifeboat located the vessel approximately two nautical miles off Llandudno Bay.
HM Coastguard then requested the Llandudno RNLI lifeboat to tow the stricken vessel to a safe mooring at the Beacons Jetty in Conwy Morfa.
A Llandudno RNLI crew member said: “In these situations, there is a critical need to thoroughly assess all the possible risks to ensure all crew members remain absolutely safe before they safely secure a vessel.
“Once we had satisfactorily completed the assessment, we were able to make our gradual tow to Conwy, arriving at 11.32pm.”
