Sergeant Jason Diamond, of North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit, is appealing for witnesses.
He said: “I offer my heartfelt condolences to Mr Stewart’s family.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish what happened and I am keen to speak to anybody who may have been travelling along the A4086 on the morning of April 5 and who may have seen a white Mazda travelling towards the direction of Bangor, or anybody who may have dash cam footage to contact us.
“The vehicle is believed to have travelled to Pwllheli prior to the collision, so anyone travelling from Pwllheli towards the Caernarfon area on Tuesday morning, between 9am and 11am, who may have seen the vehicle being driven out of the ordinary, are also asked to contact us.”
Mr Stewart’s family are now being supported by a specially trained Family Liaison Officer, and the coroner has been informed.
