COLWYN Bay FC have announced that academy player Elgan Jones passed away early yesterday.
The Colwyn Bay under-16 academy goalkeeper had until recently been a member of Bangor City’s under-16 side.
On their Facebook and Twitter pages, Colwyn Bay FC posted a tribute that read: “It is with extreme sadness that we announce that Colwyn Bay under-16 academy goalkeeper Elgan Jones suddenly passed away earlier today.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all Elgan’s family, friends, team mates and coaches. As a club we will do all we can to help and support them all.
“We please ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this heartbreaking time.”
Tributes poured out from members of the public across social media, with fans and clubs alike sharing their condolences for the tragic loss.
Bill Abbott said: “I'm shocked to hear this news, Elgan was a valuable member of Bangor City under 16s until recently and the nicest of lads. Condolences to Wyn and family at this sad time. RIP Elgan.”
Alison Bishop wrote: “Such tragic news for someone so young from an U16 academy goalie mum. My thoughts are with the family.”
