WORK is progressing well on a new disability respite centre and café in Colwyn Bay.
Wynne Construction has been appointed by Conwy County Borough Council to build the £5.5million Bron y Nant respite centre and café facility on Dinerth Road.
The disability respite facility will provide five fully furnished apartments, communal space and staff accommodation for those with disability support needs.
In addition, the complex care day unit will provide a daily respite service, while the cafe and shop will provide additional work opportunities for people with disabilities.
On the lower site, the brickwork/blockwork on the cafe building is completed and the roof installation has started.
The zinc cladded roof installation will start this month, along with first fix works.
On the top site, the brickwork/blockwork to the basement area of the respite building will be completed this month, along with the completion of the foundations for the first floor of the building.
Councillor Louise Emery, deputy council leader, said: “It’s good to see the construction progressing well and to watch this wonderful new facility taking shape.
“Funded through Welsh Government Integrated Care Fund and prudential borrowing, this purpose-built facility will enhance the lives of our service users with a support need, and enable their families and carers to continue in their caring roles.
“The plant nursery with the café and shop will be open to the public and will provide enhanced work opportunities for people with disabilities.”
