RADIO 1Xtra DJ Snoochie Shy says it is “insane” that she is set to appear on the hit ITV show that she grew up watching with her family.

The 29-year-old has been “zenning out” while self-isolating on Anglesey with her mum and cat before entering the I’m a Celebrity camp, however she will soon be thrown into the spotlight as millions of viewers tune in on Sunday night to watch her every move.

She is used to being at the centre of attention, hosting a popular music show on the Radio 1 sister channel with some of the UK’s best and brightest upcoming artists.

The Gwyrch Castle camp will present a different ballgame – or bug game, if you like – but she feels prepared for it, and she is already getting used to life in North Wales.

“This is my first time here,” she said. “You know what I really love about it is that it’s so quiet. Where I am right now, I can see about seven cows, the sea; it’s very different to south London, busy all the time, noisy. It’s been in a good time to just chill out.

“I’ve grown up watching the show, something I’d always watch with my family, so to even be asked to go on it is quite insane.

“I genuinely can’t believe I’m actually go on it to be honest, just because it’s something I’ve watched my whole life.”

Her campmates in Abergele include BBC presenter Louise Minchin, retired football star David Ginola, producer Naughty Boy, Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley and The Saturdays’ Frankie Bridge.

Snoochie does not know any of them are entering the castle yet, though she is already looking forward to hugging her fellow self-isolated campmates.

“I’m really excited to have new experiences because I am definitely scared of everything, especially heights,” she said.

“I think heights is probably the worst thing for me – I am five foot 11, but I’m still scared to go up a three-step ladder. The height thing will be crazy but I’m excited to challenge myself.

“I’m also excited to meet everyone that’s going in there as well, especially because we’ve been in isolation for so long. I think going in there and being able to hug people will be quite sick.”

The I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! campmates will meet at Gwyrch Castle, Abergele on Sunday.

Snoochie may miss her cat, but it sounds like the feline has been enjoying its time on the north west Wales island.

“My cat is not an outdoor cat, he’s an indoor cat, and now he just wants to go outside all the time, which I’m trying to wean him off of because, when he gets back to the flat, he’s only got a balcony! So he’s loving North Wales a lot.”

As she ventures into Wales for the first time, her radio station, which includes rap and grime music, is somewhat unchartered territory for Welsh artists, however she is keen to hear from any of the nation’s future rappers.

“My inbox is always open for any submissions,” she said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re upcoming or it’s your first song, so I’m always up for finding out about new artists.”

It is time for Snoochie to impress, however, and she is going to take a fearless attitude – though whether she can keep it up during the wicked challenges that will be thrown at her is another question.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will be broadcast on ITV1 at 9pm on Sunday, November 21.
