PLANS have been lodged for a new Costa Coffee at Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno.
The plans, submitted to Conwy County Borough Council by applicant Hercules Unit Trust Ltd, involve converting part of Aldi into the coffee shop.
The existing Aldi store is set to expand in size; Argos - which has relocated to a different unit - will be stripped out to allow for the expansion of supermarket.
A construction method plan states: “This Construction Method Plan (CMP) has been prepared in support of the planning application the upsize of an existing Aldi food store and a new Costa Coffee shop and landlord welfare area within existing Mostyn Champneys retail area.
“The development proposal includes stripping out the former Argos unit to allow the upsizing of the existing Aldi store to be extended. A new single story flat roof extension is to be constructed on the front of Argos to provide a new entrance lobby.
“Following the strip out of the existing Aldi, the party wall will be removed to allow Aldi to fit out the store.
“A new shop front will be constructed to form a new Costa Coffee shop.
“A new shopfront will be fitted and a new landlord welfare unit will be constructed in the rear of the unit.”
In January, an Argos spokesperson told the Pioneer: “The landlord for our Llandudno store has given notice.”
A spokesperson added on September 8: “Our Argos Llandudno store has relocated to a different unit within the Mostyn Champneys Retail Park and opened to customers on Wednesday, August 18.”
An Aldi spokesperson said: “Work to expand our Mostyn Champneys Retail Park store will start in October 2021. The existing store will close after Christmas and, when we reopen in summer next year, the new layout will have more space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges, as well as brighter and wider aisles.”
A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a planning application has been approved for a Costa Coffee store on Mostyn Champneys Retail Park, Llandudno but we can’t share any further details at this time.”
A double-storey Mcdonald’s with a drive-thru opened at Mostyn Champneys retail park in June.
The restaurant, the first double story drive-thru McDonald’s restaurant in North Wales, can seat up to 160 customers.
The existing restaurant is set to be demolished.
An application has also been lodged with the council to change a private pedestrian walkway into a external private pedestrian seating area for use in association with the proposed coffee shop.
It will accommodate 16 customers.
