MEMBERS of the Senedd for Aberconwy and Clwyd West have resumed their long-held roles following re-election.
Janet Finch-Saunders, MS for Aberconwy, and Darren Millar, MS for Clwyd West, kept their seats for the third and fourth successive election respectively as confirmed at the vote count at Eirias Park.
Mrs Finch-Saunders, who was first elected to the seat in 2011, received 9,815 votes, a majority of 41.67 per cent, the highest recorded since the constituency was created in 2007. Runner-up Aaron Wynne, of Plaid Cymru, received 6,479 votes.
“The result was a clear indication that Aberconwy is no longer the two-way marginal that it once was,” she said. “It was also a wonderful endorsement of my record of delivery for the constituency, as well as my positive plan for recovery – a fact that I do not take lightly.”
In Clwyd West, Mr Millar was re-elected in what was expected to be a close-fought campaign with Welsh Labour Joshua Hurst. Mr Millar received 11,839 votes, a 41.74 per cent majority, followed by Mr Hurst with 8,154 votes.
Mr Millar, who has held the seat since 2007, said: “I am thrilled to have been re-elected to serve the people of Clwyd West in the Senedd for the next five years. It’s a huge privilege to represent such a beautiful and diverse constituency.”
The politicians sworn their oath of allegiance at a socially distanced ceremony at the Welsh Parliament office in Colwyn Bay, with a formal ceremony held at the Senedd in due course.
