A COLWYN Bay woman is conquering her fear of heights by skydiving to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.
Cindy Griffiths, aged 44, who is an occupational therapist, underwent three lots of surgery in 2019 and this made her reflect on how precious and short life is.
As a result, she has set herself a challenge to conquer three fears; swimming in the sea, riding a motorbike and being able to stroke a cat.
Cindy said: “I tackled these fears and now swim in the sea, the first time was near Caernarfon. I now have passed my CBC motorcycle licence and can hold a cat.”
Explaining her reasons for supporting the charity, she said: “In July 2020 I had another health scare. On the return journey from my check up I decided, whatever the outcome of my results, if I came through the other end, I would jump out of a plane to raise donations for St David’s Hospice.”
She now plans to take part in a tandem skydive at Tilstock Airfield, Whitchurch, Shropshire in July.
She added: “Like last time I had the mindset that conquering a fear had to be simpler to overcome than a serious diagnosis. Each one of us has been affected by a loved one, friend or neighbour passing away so please help me raise donations for this wonderful local charity. After all, it’s not as if you need to jump out of a plane for it.’’
To date, Cindy has raised 20 per cent of her £1,000 fundraising target.

Community fundraisers make up 90 per cent of the five-million pound annual running cost of St David’s Hospice, with just nine per cent of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board.
Money raised will contribute towards St David’s Hospice continuing to provide their care, free of charge to people in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
