A PERSONAL trainer will celebrate her 40th birthday as she attempts to do 2,000 burpees to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.
Maria Nolan, from Conwy, said she wants to thank the hospice for the end-of-life care her mother-in-law Margaret received last October, and to help to continue its crucial support for families.
She is attempting the excruciating number of the high-intensity exercise over a two-week period, the equivalent of about 142 per day, during which she will turn 40-years-old on Sunday, January 17.
“The care and support Margaret and our family received from the team at the Llandudno hospice was amazing," said Maria, who owns Bodyfit by Maria.
“The challenge is tough, but such a great cause and so many kind donations keeping me motivated. Everyone has been so generous and has already helped to raise nearly £300 on my fundraiser Facebook page, which is amazing!”
As of Thursday, January 14, or day five of her birthday challenge, she had completed a total of 500 burpees.
This year it will cost over £5million to run St David’s Hospice with just 9 per cent of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board.
James Wilde, Conwy Area Fundraiser said: “Throughout the pandemic, St David’s Hospice is here for the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing specialist end of life care and support to local people at a very difficult time in their lives.
“We are so appreciative of Maria’s efforts. Every penny and pound raised supports the vital work of the Hospice. Thank you for making this possible”
