STUNNING drone footage has been shared of Abergele Gwrych's Castle.

ITV confirmed on Thursday, August 27 that the 20th series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! will be hosted at the 200-year-old ruined castle. This followed weeks of speculation, further fuelled after the site said it was closing to the public until New Year.

Kevin Lygo, director of television at ITV, said the site had been chosen for its Disneyesque appearance.

“We found an extraordinary place, a beautiful Walt Disney castle, crumbling, tough and we just thought this looks like the place," he said.

Conwy County Borough Council have shared footage that allows viewers to take a closer look at the celebrities' new camp.

Dr Mark Baker, chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, said: "I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2020 series.

"Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed 19th county house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales.

"I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support Gwrych Castle and its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost.”

In 2018, Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust bought the fairytale Welsh Castle. The purchase was able to go ahead after National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) stepped in with a grant of £600,000.

It was a dream come true for Dr Baker who, as a child, would pass the castle everyday to and from school.

Aged 11, the campaigner founded the castle trust and 22 years later, the castle is starting to come back to life and is becoming more accessible to the public.

The site is currently undergoing a huge restoration project.
