A HERD of goats who have taken over the deserted streets of Llandudno have now made their way on to a T-shirt to raise much needed funds for a hospice.
Last week St David’s Hospice donation centre in Mochdre was broken into. Yobs ‘trashed’ the centre and items, including designer clothes, electrical goods, and jewellery were snatched by callous thieves.
Fundraisers have rallied together to try and help the hospice, which provides respite and end of life care to adult patients living with life limiting illnesses across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
But the action of the wild Great Orme goats and the location of St David’s Hospice in Llandudno, on Abbey Road, has given the charity the chance to launch a new fundraising product - T-shirts combining two famous images: the goats blended with the cover of The Beatles’ album Abbey Road.
The goats wandering towards the Hospice inpatient unit
Margaret Hollings, head of fundraising, marketing and communications at the Hospice, said: “Following the worldwide news about the Great Orme Goats taking over the town of Llandudno, we came up with the concept of a bespoke T-shirt as it seemed like a fitting tribute to our lovely goat friends which are regular visitors to the hospice.
“By purchasing a T-shirt, it is also a great way for people to support us to ensure that we can keep our wonderful clinical colleagues on the front line during Covid-19.
“The goats have always been a bit cheeky wandering about the town at this time of year but when we heard that Llandudno had been branded a ‘goat town’ in the news last week, we wanted to grasp some positivity from the situation.”
Margaret added that it is a very challenging time for the hospice for fundraising.
"Throughout Covid-19 the hospice clinical team remains on the front line to ensure that some of the most vulnerable patients in our communities can get the help and care that they need," she said.
The T-shirts on sale
"Unfortunately however, the hospice faces huge financial challenges in the near future, since nearly 90 per cent of the hospices income has dried up due to the closure of 26 charity shops and the cancellation of major fundraising events.
“At the same time, our inpatient and community services remain open to patients who are vulnerable and need us.”
The St David’s Hospice Great Orme Goat T-shirts are on sale for £11.99 and £13.99 and can be purchased through www.stdavidshospice.org.uk/shop
All funds raised will go to the hospice to support their clinical work throughout Covid-19 and will provide memorabilia for the future to remember April 2020 – when the goats took over Llandudno.
