LLANDUDNO were unable to cause a stir at the JD Cymru North summit as they fell to a 4-1 home loss to Prestatyn Town.
A disappointing first half display from Matthew Jones’ side gave them too much to do in the second period against the runaway JD Cymru North leaders, and they face a potential banana skin this Saturday when Tudno next take the field at Holywell Town on Saturday in a highly anticipated JD Welsh Cup first round clash.
The home side were unable to take advantage of a positive opening to proceedings that saw them enjoy large spells of prolonged possession, and they were made to pay on 17 minutes when former player Kai Edwards smashed home the opener from close range.
Home custodian Shaun Pearson was the hero soon after when he kept out a Rob Hughes penalty and subsequent rebound to pull off a stunning double save, and Danny Hughes’ effort was unfortunate not to find the net at the other end with 33 on the clock.
The visitors imposed themselves further on proceedings towards the end of the half and doubled their cushion on 40 minutes when Jack Higgins netted a rebound after Hughes’ initial effort struck the post, and the same player was on hand to despatch his second of the evening to all-but seal victory at the interval.
After the break saw Tudno secure a glimmer of hope when Scott McHarrie unleash a powerful effort into the bottom corner on 50 minutes, but any hopes of an unlikely come back were quickly dashed on 51 when Jack Kenny restored Town’s four-goal cushion.
Aaron Pomeyie, Lewis Sirrell and Alfons Fosu-Mensah missed good chances for another Tudno consolation in the final quarter of the game, with Kenny, Jordan Davies and Danny Davies spurning opportunities at the other end.
