A MAJOR reunion will be taking place this weekend.
It is 40 years since North Wales took on Romania on the rugby pitch.
Ahead of this weekend's match between RGC and Pontypridd at Stadiwm Zip World, in Colwyn Bay, members of that North Wales team will be meeting up to reminisce.
Organiser Doug Barnes said: "In our day it was all amateur.
"Training was infrequent (and) games were usually played midweek, away at places like Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, or in the Counties Cup in Gwent - usually in the depths of winter on a muddy pitch, against teams full of Welsh internationals.
"We did this for the love of the game.
"We all played for the privilege of wearing the yellow jersey with the Griffon on the badge.
"Players were selected from many differing clubs and made the most of the opportunities.
"We were team mates and friends for the cause - the next Saturday we would knock lumps off one another in a club match - and still have a pint together afterwards."
The game against Romania was played at Eirias Park.
It was a fast match that was dominated by the Romanian pack, with the final score being 38-15 to the visitors.
Ruthin's Keith Lyons scored North Wales' try, while Terry Gleave kicked a conversion and three penalties.
On Saturday, a DVD of the highlights of the game will be shown on a large TV screen as those present enjoy the hospitality.
