A ROCK fall in Ffestiniog tunnel has closed part of the Conwy Valley railway line for the next two days.
All services will terminate at Betws-y-Coed and buses will provide a replacement service for the rest of the journey to Blaeneau Ffestiniog.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Fallen rocks have been identified in Ffestiniog Tunnel and we have closed a section of the Conwy Valley line as a precautionary measure.
"We anticipate services will be suspended for the rest of today and tomorrow and having a clearer idea of the extent of the damage on Thursday, and how long it will take to repair.
"We are working closely with Transport for Wales Rail Services, to keep passengers moving during the closure of the line. A replacement bus service will operate until it reopens. We will continue to keep passengers and the local community informed while we carry out essential repair work on the tunnel.
“All services will start and terminate at Betws-Y-Coed while engineers carry out the work in the tunnel.
“We apologise to passengers for any disruption caused during the closure. We understand the railway is a vital link for local people, however safety is a key priority, and we are working hard to get the line reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.”
