THE ancient Church of St Mary’s & All Saints in Conwy is set to host a 10-week summer season of concerts.

Conwy Classical Music Festival director Chris Roberts has organised a series of weekly hour-long concerts by professional musicians from June 24 to August 30.

The series, supported by Conwy Town Council, comes after the popular classical festival due to take place in July was cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

It begins with violinist Mary Hofman and pianist Rchard Ormrod, two internationally acclaimed artists who have made their home in the Conwy Valley.

The duo have wide experience of chamber and orchestral music and regularly perform as concerto soloists.

Their recital will feature Rameau’s Suite in G for Solo Keyboard, Mozart’s Sonata in Bb major, K.454, and ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ by Jamaican composer Eleanor Alberga.

All concerts take place from 12.30pm-1.30pm with the finale at 12.30pm on the Bank Holiday Monday.

St Mary's Church, dated to 1172, has hosted an annual programme of classical lunchtime concerts since 1981 and the week-long Classical Music Festival was held in 2005 to mark their 15-year anniversary.

The popular festival was continued annually, featuring chamber and orchestral works, vocal and instrumental recitals and evenings of choral and operatic music. The festival is hoped to return in July 2022 following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Pre-ordered tickets for the concert series essential due to reduced capacity. Covid restrictions will be in place, including social distancing and mandatory face masks.
