A FIVE wicket haul from Amlyn Layton gave improving Llanrwst a 78-run win at Gresford.
The Rwsters are enjoying a strong end to the North Wales Premier Division season, and they will look to keep their good momentum going when they host Connah’s Quay on Saturday.
The hosts lost Huw Williams (4) and Robert Ballarino (2) early on after being put into bat, but knocks of 28 and 38 from Nathan Jones and Meirion Layton steadied the ship in what were difficult conditions at the crease.
Simon Perry skittled Aron Hughes after he made just four, but double figure scores from Trefor Williams (17), wicketkeeper Aled Hughes (20), plus an unbeaten 36 from Layton gave the home side 185-8 from their allotted 47 overs.
Layton wasted no time in steamrolling the visiting batting attack when he got rid of dangerous pair Matthew Cree (3) and Danny Williams (2), while Alwyn Williams produced a sublime delivery to clean bowl Henry Makings for 15.
Captain Chris Ellwood made a stubborn 43 before he was stumped off a Ballarino delivery, and the same bowler helped himself to two further wickets to end the day on 3-17 from five productive overs.
It was Layton who was take the plaudits at the end of the innings, tearing through the lower order for figures of 5-44 as the home side mustered just 107 all out in reply.
